2011-2012 SunTrust Off To College Scholarship Sweepstakes
Fifteen $1,000 scholarships will be awarded from October 28, 2011 to May 11, 2012. GPA and financial need are not factors. Seniors should see website for details and to register: www.offtocollege.info.
NPALSA Scholarship

Charles B. Cross, Jr. Citizenship Award
Award is based on citizenship, so transcripts are not required. Application requires three letters of recommendation. One $3,000 scholarship will be awarded. Applications are due March 1, 2012.
The Quality of Life Corporation Scholarships
Seniors must have a minimum 2.0 GPA and demonstrate financial need. Application requires transcript and two letters of recommendation. Two $5,000 scholarships (including one to a CPS student) will be awarded. Applications are due March 31, 2012.
Jackie Robinson Foundation Scholarships
Applicants must be minority high school seniors who are United States citizens and plan to attend an accredited four-year institution in the United States. Applicants must demonstrate leadership, community service, financial need and have a minimum 1000 SAT (reading and math) or 22 ACT score. See website for details and to apply www.jackierobinson.org. Applications are due March 30, 2012.
Janice M. Scott Memorial Scholarship
Applicants must have a minimum 3.0 GPA. Application requires transcript, two letters of recommendation, Student Aid Report or copy of parent’s 2011 income tax return, senior picture, and essay. Three to five $2,500 scholarships are proposed to be awarded. Applications are due March 31, 2012.
Brad Fleming Memorial Scholarship
Athletes with a minimum 3.0 GPA are eligible to apply. Applicants must demonstrate kindness, respectfulness, positive attitude, sense of humor, friendliness, and dedication to athletics. Application requires two letters of recommendation and essay. See application for details. One $5,000 scholarship will be awarded to a GBHS senior. Applications are due April 23, 2012.
VSGA-VIP Scholarship Foundation
Virginia high school seniors who have lived in Virginia since September 1, 2011 and have an interest in golf are eligible to apply. Application requires character references, letter of recommendation, transcript, and essay. See website for details and application www.vsga.org. Applications are due by 5:00pm on February 24, 2012.
The Blue Heron Scholarship
Applicant must be a Chesapeake resident with financial need and have a minimum 2.5 GPA. Recipient may attend any institute of higher learning or trade school. Application requires proof of Chesapeake residence, essay, transcript, and two letters of recommendation. One $500 scholarship will be awarded. Applications are due March 30, 2012.
Chesapeake Sports Club Scholarship
Seniors who have at least a “C” average and have lettered in at least one VHSL varsity sport are eligible to apply. Application requires a copy of parents’ tax return, at least two letters of recommendation, transcript, and essay. One senior from each Chesapeake high school will receive a $1,000 scholarship. Return completed applications to Mrs. Lenhart by March 26, 2012.
Norfolk and Portsmouth Bar Association Foundation Scholarship Essay Contest
Application requires essay, letter of recommendation, and transcript. One $2,500 scholarship and one $1,000 scholarship will be awarded. Completed applications are due March 30, 2012.
Hampton Roads Community Foundation Scholarship
Seniors must live in South Hampton Roads. Application requires transcript, Student Aid Report, and two letters of recommendation. Several scholarships will be awarded. Check application for specific requirements. (Harry Bramhall Gilbert Memorial Scholarship will be awarded to a CPS student who will attend William & Mary, JMU, UVA, or VT. Roland W. Proescher Scholarship will be awarded to a student studying engineering, medicine, dentistry, pharmacy, or other science. Joseph E. and Bertha White Harry Scholarship will be awarded to students attending ODU or Virginia Wesleyan. Adrian Ryan Kirk scholarship will be awarded to a student with ADD, ADHD, or a learning disability attending college or vocational school. Frank Fang Memorial scholarship will be awarded to a Chinese or Chinese-American student. There are many other scholarships available. See application for complete list.) Norfolk Alumnae Chapter of Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority Inc., Scholarship
Applicants must be African American male or female students. Application requires transcript, autobiographical essay, two letters of recommendation, financial statement, and picture. Quantity and amount of scholarship are not specified. Applications must be postmarked by February 25, 2012.
Tidewater Builders Association
Application requires official transcript, test scores, resume, copy of parents’ income tax return or W-2, copy of FAFSA, and at least two recommendations. Details and applications are available at www.tbaonline.org. Last year, eight $7,500 scholarships were awarded. Applications must be postmarked by April 7, 2012.
Brenda M. Gilbert Memorial Scholarship
All former Crestwood Middle School students are encouraged to apply. Application requires transcript and essay on “Pay it Forward.” Recipient may attend a two or four year college/university. One $1,000 scholarship will be awarded. Applications are due Friday, March 30, 2012.
The Stein Family College Scholarship of the Tidewater Jewish Foundation
Application requires essay, two letters of recommendation, transcript, college acceptance letter, resume, and copy of student aid report. See website for application/details www.jewishva.org/tjf-stein. Applications are due March 16, 2012. A scholarship of up to $10,000 will be awarded to a Jewish student.
2012 PDK Prospective Educator Scholarship Program-Tidewater Chapter 1098
Applicants must plan to major in education and be a member of a Future Educators Association, or a child/grandchild of a Kappan, or have a reference letter from a Kappan. Application requires goals statement, reference letter, and transcript. One $1,000 scholarship will be awarded by the Tidewater Chapter. Several PDK International Endowed Scholarships with specific criteria will also be awarded. See application for details. Applications are due March 1, 2012.
Virginia PTA Scholarship
Virginia seniors planning to enter teaching or other youth-serving profession are eligible to apply. Applicants must have a 2.5 GPA and attend a Virginia college/university. Application requires three letters of recommendation, transcript, and school administration support form to be completed by counselor and signed by principal. Completed applications must be postmarked by March 1, 2012. Return applications to Mrs. Lenhart by February 22, 2012. (This will allow enough time for counselor/principal to review and sign applications.) Two $1,200 scholarships and several $1,000 scholarships will be awarded.
Great Bridge High School 2011-2012 Scholarships
Each year, a Great Bridge High School Scholarship Committee selects recipients for a limited number of community and school-based scholarships. These are one time gifts of $250-$2,500 from local organizations and families in memory of former Great Bridge High School students and faculty. All seniors who plan to attend a two year or four year college are encouraged to apply. Some of the awards require students to be PTSA members, so make sure you are a member! In order to be considered, an application must be submitted to Mrs. Lenhart no later than Thursday, April 5, 2012.
Paul Charles Harris Memorial Scholarship
All seniors who plan to attend college are encouraged to apply, especially soccer players and students with learning differences. Applicants should be able to get along with others, be respectful, have a positive and friendly attitude, and be dedicated to earning a college degree. Application requires three letters of recommendation. Quantity and value of scholarships are not yet determined. Applications are due April 30, 2012.
Northern Star Credit Union-W. Frank Wright Memorial Scholarship
Applicant or parent/guardian must have an account with Northern Star Credit Union. Recipients may attend college, trade school, or technical school. Applications require transcript and essay. Quantity and value of scholarships are not specified. Applications are due March 31, 2012.
Virginia Credit Union-Dorothy J. Hall Memorial Scholarship
Applicant must be a member of Virginia Credit Union (not any credit union in Virginia) and must have been a member by September 30, 2011. Applicant must have at least a 3.0 GPA. Application requires transcript and essay. See website for application www.vacu.org. Twenty five scholarships, up to $2,500 each will be awarded. Applications are due March 30, 2012.
The Society of the Cincinnati in the State of Virginia Weedon Memorial High School Essay Contest
Seniors must attend a four-year college/university in Virginia. Application requires essay on The Declaration of Independence. See application for details. Four $3,000 scholarships will be awarded. Applications must be postmarked by March 16, 2012.
National Naval Officers Association Tidewater Chapter Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) Scholarship
Application requires essay, transcript, and photograph. See application for GPA and college major requirements. One $10,000; one $5,000; and two $2,500 scholarships will be awarded to Hampton Roads seniors. Applications must be postmarked by March 6, 2012.
National Naval Officers Association Vice Admiral Samuel Gravely Scholarship
Applicants must have a minimum 3.0 GPA and attend a four-year college/university. Application requires letter of recommendation from a school official, transcript, essay, and photograph. One $2,500 scholarship and two $1,500 scholarships will be awarded to Hampton Roads seniors. Applications must be postmarked by March 6, 2012.
Hampton Roads American Logistics Association Scholarship Program
Applicants must be dependents of military members or military resale employees. Applicants must have at least a 3.0 GPA and rank in the top 35%. Application requires transcript, SAT/ACT scores, two letters of recommendation, and essay. Ten $1,500 scholarships will be awarded. Applications are due March 31, 2012.
Jarrod Camper Smith Memorial Scholarship
Applicant must have played select travel soccer and lettered in high school Varsity soccer. Application requires transcript, essay, and two letters of recommendation. One letter must be from soccer coach. One $2,000 scholarship will be awarded. Applications are due March 31, 2012.
The Armenian Education Center Scholarship
Students in grades 9-12 are eligible to enter essay competition. See application for essay guidelines. One $1,000 scholarship will be awarded to a Virginia high school student. Essays are due April 2, 2012.
Third Masonic District Masters and Wardens Council 2012 Scholarship
Seniors must have at least a 2.5 GPA. Application requires three letters of recommendation, essay, and official transcript/SAT scores. Recipient may attend a 2-year or 4-year institution. One $500 scholarship will be awarded to a senior graduating from five high schools in Chesapeake. Applications are due April 31, 2012.
American Helicopter Society, Inc.- Christopher Govora Scholarship
Seniors who wish to pursue a career in engineering or related technical fields such as physics, mathematics, or computer science are eligible. Recipient will receive a 1-year membership in AHS, an engraved plaque, and a $2,000 scholarship. Application requires a 1-3 page essay and a minimum of two letters of reference. See application for essay guidelines. Applications must be postmarked by April 1, 2012.
American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics Futures in Aerospace Scholarship
Seniors who intend to pursue a study in engineering or the physical or applied sciences pertinent to aerospace are eligible. Two $2,000 scholarships will be awarded. Application requires an essay of no more than 1,200 words and a letter of recommendation by a high school faculty member. See application for essay guidelines. Application must be postmarked by March 19, 2012.
The Marine Spouses’ Thrift Shop- Marc S. Tace Scholarship
Seniors who are U.S. Marine Corps dependents of active duty, retired, reservists, and deceased members stationed and living in the Hampton Roads area may apply. Application requires two letters of recommendation, a 500 maximum word essay “explaining how growing up as a Marine Corps ‘kid’ will help you as you begin this new chapter in your life”, and a photocopy of the student’s USMC Military ID Card, both front and back. Amount and quantities are not yet determined. Applications are due March 28, 2012.
Zonta International Young Women in Public Affairs Scholarship Program
Females ages 16-19 are eligible. One
scholarship of $750 will be awarded and the recipient will have her application
forwarded to the District where she will compete for an additional $1,000
scholarship. The District winner will go on to compete within Zonta
International where five $3,000 scholarships will be awarded.
Application
requires two confidential letters of recommendation as well as verification of
current enrollment by a school official. Applications are due March 1, 2012.
Chesapeake Bay Art Association-John B. Tenney
Memorial Scholarship
Seniors who are
planning to further education in the field of art are eligible. Application
requires 4x6 photos of 3 pieces of artwork. One $1,000 scholarship will be
awarded. Applications are due April 11, 2012.
Dr.
Clarence V. Cuffee Scholarship Fund
The scholarship
recipients must be accepted to Norfolk State University and have a desire to
pursue a major in Education or Social Work. Three $1,500 scholarships were
awarded last year. The application requires two letters of reference and an
essay that is not to exceed two pages, double spaced. See application for essay
guidelines.

Anchor Scholarship
Dependent children whose sponsor is active duty or retired or whose sponsor has served a minimum of six (6) years in a unit under the administrative control of Commanders, Naval Surface Forces, U.S. Atlantic or U.S. Pacific Fleet may be eligible to apply. Application is a two-step process. The first step requires applicant to confirm eligibility. This must be completed by March 1, 2012. The second step requires application to be received by Anchor Scholarship Foundation by March 15, 2012. See brochure for details.
Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc.-2012 Dyanne Buffington Book Scholarship
Seniors must have a minimum 2.8 GPA are eligible to apply. Application requires letter of recommendation, official transcript, and essay (see application for topic). One $500 scholarship will be awarded. Applications must be postmarked by March 1, 2012.
Hamilton Relay Scholarship
Graduating seniors who are deaf, hard of
hearing, deaf-blind or have difficulty speaking are eligible. One scholarship of
$500 will be awarded to a qualified student in the state of Virginia.
Application requires one page essay, one letter of recommendation, and signed
talent release form. Applications must be postmarked by March 30, 2012.
Chesapeake
Hospital Authority 2012 Scholarship Program
Seniors who are
planning to pursue a career in the healthcare industry are eligible to apply.
Application requires two letters of reference, transcript, resume, essay (see
application for topic), copy of FAFSA-SAR, and copy of acceptance letter into an
approved healthcare educational program. Ten seniors will receive a $2,500
scholarship. Applications must be postmarked by April 20, 2012.
TCC 2012-2013 Outstanding High School Graduate
Award
Seniors must have
a minimum 3.0 GPA. Scholarship application requires personal statement, letter
of recommendation, official transcript, and TCC application. Recipients will
receive $4,000 scholarships that may be renewed if 3.0 GPA is maintained.
Applications are due to TCC by March 1, 2012.

Kessler Scholarship
Chesapeake Seniors

The Chesapeake
Detachment Scholarship
Applicant must be
a son, daughter, grandchild, or stepchild of a Chesapeake Detachment, Marine
Corps League, or Chesapeake Unit of the Ladies Auxiliary member in good standing
OR a son, daughter, grandchild, or stepchild of a Marine, or FMF Corpsman, who
lost his/her life in the line of duty OR a member in good standing in the Marine
Corps Young Marine Program with 2 years of Honorable Service, and obtained rank
of Corporal, OR a member in a USMC Jr. ROTC Program with 2 years of honorable
service and a grade of B or higher, OR any member of the Marine Corps League
Chesapeake Detachment in Good Standing. Applicant must also have a minimum 3.0
GPA. Application requires letter of recommendation, transcript, proof of
acceptance by an educational institution, resume, and essay. See application
for details. One $500 scholarship will be awarded. Applications are due to
Marine Corps League by May 1, 2012.
The National
Council of Negro Women, Inc. Joyce Gould Educational Award
Applicant must be
an African American female with a minimum 2.8 GPA who will attend an accredited
college or university and participates in school, community, and church
activities. Application requires transcript, two letters of recommendation,
copy of college acceptance letter (when available), and a copy of
parents’/guardians’ 1040 tax form or other proof of income. One $1,000
scholarship will be awarded. Applications must be postmarked by April 6, 2012.
The Virginia-DC-Maryland-West Virginia Chapter
of the American Public Works Association (APWA)
The scholarships
are available to high school graduates, college undergraduate and graduate
students who are planning to enroll in a full-time undergraduate or graduate
degree program at an accredited college or university in the fall term of 2012
and have a minimum GPA of 3.0. Two $2,500 scholarships will be awarded and
preference will be given to students who plan to pursue a degree affiliated with
Public Works agencies (i.e. Engineering, Architecture, Interior Design,
Construction Management, Graphics Arts, Business, Public Administration,
Finance, etc.) as well as those who are a member, or whose parent, guardian, or
sponsor is a current member of the APWA VA/DC/MD/WV Chapter. Application
requires a 250 word essay. Applicant must submit (1) signed original application
with transcript, as well as (4) complete copies.

Colonial Agricultural Education Foundation 2012
Scholarship Program

specified criteria. One award is for a resident of Suffolk, Chesapeake or
Virginia Beach who will be enrolled a 2 or 4 year agricultural curriculum at
North Carolina State University or Virginia Tech. Applications are due March 1,

Portsmouth Invitational Tournament
Great Bridge High School may nominate one student-athlete.
Previous recipients had an average GPA of 4.1 and SAT score of 1270 (math and
verbal). Nominee must have participated in a varsity sport for at least two
years, including junior and senior years of high school. Nominee must
demonstrate leadership. Scholarships of $4,000 will be awarded to a student
from each of the Southside Hampton Roads cities. If interested in being
considered for nomination, bring resume and 1 or 2 letters of recommendation to
Mrs. Lenhart by February 24, 2012.
Buick Achievers Scholarship Program
Seniors who plan
to major in a field of study that focuses on engineering, technology, design or
business with an interest in the automotive industry may be eligible to apply.

Epsilon Nu Lambda Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha
Fraternity, Inc., Scholarship
African American
males with a minimum 2.5 GPA are eligible to apply. Application requires two
letters of reference, essay (see application for topic), and transcript. One
$1,000 scholarship will be awarded. Applications must be postmarked by March

Hickory Elementary School Beverly Fulcher
Tomcany Memorial Scholarship
GBHS seniors who
attended Hickory Elementary School are eligible to apply. Applicants must have
a minimum 3.0 GPA and plan to pursue a teaching career. Application requires
transcript, resume, essay, and two letters of recommendation. One $2,000
scholarship will be awarded.

Granville P. Meade Scholarship
Seniors planning
to attend a four year college/university in Virginia are eligible to apply.
Application requires transcript, test scores, financial statement to be
completed by parent/guardian, and at least four letters of reference.
Scholarships of $2,000/year for four years will be awarded. Recipients must
maintain a minimum 2.5 GPA in college. Applications are due to Mrs. Lenhart by
March 2, 2012.
Dilliard’s Samaritan Scholarship
Great Bridge may submit one application for the award. If interested in being considered for nomination, submit a one page essay that includes your community involvement and responsibilities that support and promote family unity to Mrs. Lenhart by February 27, 2012.
Chesapeake
Reading Council Scholarships
Students pursuing a
degree in education are eligible to apply. Two of the scholarships will be
given to students from CPS pursuing undergraduate degrees. Application requires
essay (see application for topic), letter of recommendation, and copy of college
acceptance letter. Application is due April 1, 2012.
