PURPOSE |
| Chess Club | Jolliff Chess Team participates in chess tournaments with other schools in Chesapeake. 6th, 7th, and 8th grade students are invited to learn how to play chess, improve their game and compete with other schools. | |
| Debate Club | Mrs. Stith/Mrs. Gunn | Students will learn the skills necessary to present an argument without emotionalism and how to defend it using reputable sources. Students will also learn research and organizational skills. |
| Do Something Club | Amy Foy | We are a group of students who want to make our community (local and global) a good place to live. Some activities that we are involved in are Teen for Jeans and providing assistance to a local animal shelter. |
| FCCLA | Mrs. Napier | Family, Career, and Community Leaders of America--is open to any student that has taken or will be taking Teen Living classes. The goal is to promote family and community issues. We are a co-curricular organization so that we meet during class time as well as after school. Last month we learned how to make cupcakes and chocolate and provided the teachers with cupcakes for Valentine's Day. |
| French Club | Mrs. Tolerton | Our purpose is to explore French traditions, to taste French cuisine, and to learn some basic French. I am hoping to spark an interest in further study of French. |
| Girl Power | Malessa Smith | Girl Power! Is a national public education campaign sponsored by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services to help encourage and motivate 9 to 14 year old girls. Girl Power is paving the way for girls to build confidence, competence, and pride in themselves. The program also provides messages and materials to girls about the risks and consequences associated with substance abuse and with potential mental health concerns. |
| Knitter's Club | Mrs. Stith | The Knitting Club meets once a week, on Tuesdays, to introduce students to the many benefits of knitting. Students learn basic knitting skills, how to pick the right yarn, and how to read a knitting pattern. We share our knowledge with each other and encourage each other to keep trying. Knitting is a useful skill to have. It enables one to produce handmade, beautiful gifts and items to wear while helping one relax. Please join us. |
| MATHCOUNTS | Mrs. Holmes | The JMS MATHCOUNTS team is a fun and challenging way to use math. Students who are interested in building their math skills through logical thinking and analytical abilities are encouraged to join the team. |
| Military Club | Ms. Eagan | The purpose of the military club is to inform students about the life of a military family and provide support for them. There is discussion and research on the benefits and educational experiences of a career in the ROTC programs in high school and the advantages and disadvantage of a career in the military. Members of the Jolliff staff have met and provided an overview of their service and career with students. |
| Sixth Grade Math Club | Mrs. Holmes/Ms. Skeeter | The sixth grade math club is open to all interested sixth graders. The purpose of the club is to have fun and enjoy math through games and activities. The club meets once a month with Mrs. Holmes and Ms. Skeeter |
| Spanish Club | Mrs. Dennis | The Spanish Club of Jolliff Middle School offers exposure to the Spanish-speaking world and its cultures. Its purpose is to be educational and fun for its members. It helps students look beyond the doors of our own school to touch the lives of others and be open to diversity coming into our lives. |
| Young Dreamers | Mr. Jones | A club designed to encourage positive and responsible behaviors and interactions from young men at Jolliff Middle. the club promotes appropriate dress and respectful dialog. |
