South Pacific Solar Eclipse . . . .

This is the island of Tahiti. The tall mountain is Mt Orohena 2,241 meters high.  This is one of the atolls of the 118 islands and atolls that make up French Polynesia.

Tahiti is the largest island in the 118 island group known as French Polynesia.

Students:  Follow me on your computer on a trip to the other side of the world.  I traveled to Tahiti to photograph a total solar eclipse.  I left Chesapeake on April 3, 2005 and flew from Washington D.C. to California and then on to Tahiti.  The journey took over 14 hours.  In Tahiti I boarded a ship named "Discovery" and set sail to the island of Moorea.  The trip ended in Peru, South America on April 21st.
