School Board Appreciation MonthThe month of February marks the annual observance of School Board Appreciation Month -- a good time to salute the work of the school board members and celebrate public education. Please take time to tell your locally elected board members that you appreciate what they do for students in Chesapeake and for speaking out for public education.
African American History MonthChesapeake Public Schools is proud to honor African American History Month. The theme for 2016 is Hallowed Grounds: Sites of African American Memories. The Association for the Study of African American Life & History has selected this annual theme to bring attention to the centennial celebration of the National Park Service and the more than twenty-five sites and the Underground Railroad Network to Freedom that are part of America's hallowed grounds, including the home of the father of black history, Dr. Carter G. Woodson.
National School Counseling Week (Feb. 1-5)Join Chesapeake Public Schools in celebrating National School Counseling Week 2016. The national theme, School Counseling: The Recipe for Success, hopes to focus public attention on the unique contribution of professional school counselors within the U.S. school systems.
