Lead2Feed World Hunger Leadership Challenge
Congratulations to Grassfield High School for being recognized as one of five grand prize recipients in the third annual Lead2Feed World Hunger Leadership Challenge. A leadership team of Grassfield High School students, known as the Famine Fighters, successfully met their goal of "Fighting Hunger One Plate at a Time" by creatively collecting over 1,100 pounds of food and raising hundreds of dollars to combat hunger in their community through events like a Movie Night Food Drive with "Stacy Claus" and a school-wide food drive. They also started the "Little Grizzlies" backpack program to supply food to local elementary students.

Because of their innovative and impactful programs, they will be awarded $25,000 for their school's nonprofit of choice - the Foodbank of Southeastern Virginia and the Eastern Shore. Grassfield High School will also be awarded $20,000 in technology products for their school. Congratulations to the Grizzlies for their admirable work in their community!

The Trustees of the Beazley Foundation have approved a challenge grant of $125,000 to the Chesapeake Public Schools Educational Foundation for technological improvements to the Chesapeake Planetarium. The Foundation is required to raise $250,000 in matching contributions, and once the total of $375,000 is reached, the funds will be used to purchase a new digital star projector system to replace the 1960s equipment presently in the planetarium. The equipment will be utilized in the present planetarium while a new Science Center is designed, funded, and constructed over the next several years, then moved to the new location.
